Me gusta, prefiero, odio and pienso que, then porque, so every speaking and writing answer has a justified view.
Opinion, porque, reason. That three-part sentence is a mark machine. Never leave me gusta on its own.

What you need to know

Core opinions: me gusta, me encanta, me chifla, no me gusta, odio, detesto, prefiero, me interesa.

Gusta agrees with what follows: me gusta el fútbol, me gustan las matemáticas, me gusta bailar (infinitive stays singular).

Person markers: me, te, le, nos, os, les. A mi hermano le gusta el cine. Add a mí, a ti for emphasis.

Think verbs: pienso que, creo que, en mi opinión, desde mi punto de vista, me parece que.

Reasons: porque, ya que, puesto que, por eso. Upgrade with además, sin embargo, por un lado, por otro lado.

Negatives: no me gusta nada, no me gusta en absoluto. Nunca with a verb: nunca juego al cricket.

Comparatives lift marks: más interesante que, menos difícil que, tan útil como, el mejor, la peor.

After opinions, add a second verb in a real tense: Me gusta el español porque es útil y lo estudio todos los días.

Me gusta plus singular noun. Porque introduces the reason. Además adds a second idea so the bullet is developed, not a slogan.

How do me gusta and me gustan work?
Gusta is not I like as an English verb. The thing you like is the subject. El fútbol me gusta really says football is pleasing to me. Singular thing or infinitive: me gusta el cine, me gusta nadar. Plural things: me gustan los perros, me gustan las ciencias. Me encanta and me encantan follow the same rule. To change the person, change the pronoun: te gusta, le gusta, nos gusta, os gusta, les gusta. A María le gustan las tapas needs both a María and le. Missing that le is one of the most common GCSE slips, and it is easy to fix once you treat gustar as backwards English.

How do I justify an opinion for marks?
An opinion without porque is a slogan. Examiners want development: what you think, why, and a little extra. Pattern: opinion + porque + adjective + extra verb. Odio la basura porque es sucia y contamina los ríos. Prefiero el insti porque veo a mis amigos y las clases son variadas. Pienso que el móvil es útil ya que puedo contactar con mi familia. Add además or sin embargo for a second clause. In the 90-word task, one justified opinion per bullet is enough. In photo-card conversation, the same pattern answers ¿qué piensas? without freezing.

Which opinion phrases show range?
Rotate beyond me gusta. Me encanta, no me gusta nada, odio, detesto, prefiero, me interesa, me aburre, me preocupa, no soporto. Then the think set: pienso que, creo que, opino que, me parece que, en mi opinión. Comparatives earn complexity: El fútbol es más emocionante que el tenis. Las mates son tan difíciles como la física. El mejor día es el viernes. Keep the reason concrete. Porque sí will not do. Because it is fun is weak unless you add what you actually do: Me encanta el fútbol porque juego cada sábado con mis amigos y me mantiene en forma.
